Scope across Africa
Africa has a growing patchwork of data protection laws. Many countries have enacted or updated legislation inspired by the EU GDPR, while others rely on constitutional privacy rights, sector rules, or regional frameworks. This notice applies when you or your website visitors are in Africa, or when African law applies to our processing.
Key frameworks we support
SuportLayer is designed to help customers meet common obligations found across African regimes: lawful processing, purpose limitation, security, accountability, and respect for individual rights. Specific requirements depend on your country; below are widely referenced laws our customers often cite.
- South Africa: Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and Information Regulator
- Kenya: Data Protection Act 2019 and Office of the Data Protection Commissioner
- Nigeria: Nigeria Data Protection Act / NDPR framework and NDPC
- Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda, Mauritius, and others: national data protection laws and authorities
- AU Convention on Cyber Security and Personal Data Protection (Malabo Convention) as a regional reference
Your rights
Depending on your country, you may have rights to be informed, access, correct, delete, object, restrict processing, and complain to a supervisory authority. Submit requests to us using the contact details on this page; we verify identity and respond within timelines required by applicable law.
Cross-border transfers
African laws often restrict transfers of personal data outside the country unless adequate protection exists (adequacy decisions, binding corporate rules, standard contractual clauses, or consent where permitted). We support customers with DPA terms and transfer mechanisms appropriate to their jurisdiction.
Role of customers
When you embed SuportLayer on your site, you are typically the responsible party for visitor data and must provide notices, obtain consents, and honour local rights. We act as a processor on your instructions and assist with security, subprocessors, and breach notification as set out in your agreement.
